We know that choosing the best secondary school for your child is incredibly important, and we would be delighted to show you around Tenbury High so you can see for yourself how your child can thrive at our ambitious, caring, and inclusive school. We have a very limited number of places available for the 2025/26 intake at Tenbury High Ormiston Academy. School transport provided from Bromyard/Leominster/Ludlow and surrounding areas and more information can be found on our THOA Transport page.

In the meantime, we wanted to share some further information with about Tenbury High, and what we offer to support you and your child in making an informed decision about the next step in their education journey.

Earlier this year, Ofsted visited our school and were delighted to be judged as ‘Good’ across all categories. In particular, inspectors noted how “Tenbury High Ormiston Academy is an inclusive school at the heart of its community. Relationships between staff and pupils are warm.” They also praised how:

  • “All are ambitious for pupils to achieve the very best that they can in all areas of school life.”
  • “Behaviour is calm and pleasant”
  • “Leaders, staff and pupils are all rightly proud of their school.”
  • “Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), learn well in lessons.”
  • “All have the opportunity to take part in a variety of interesting activities, including archery, basketball and role play.”
  • We are incredibly ambitious for our students, and we are proud to see excellent outcomes. Our school leavers have excellent post-16 opportunities because of these results, and we are extremely proud that this year, many of our 2022 leavers will be embarking on courses at prestigious universities.
  • Our curriculum develops the skills necessary for young adults to succeed in a modern global society. We are one of few high schools which still co-ordinate a week of work experience in Year 10 and we have recently been awarded the CareersMark Gold award again for our excellent careers guidance.
  • There is plenty of fun, excitement and memories to be made in our academy, helping your child grow as a confident learner. We run many day trips and every year there are also several residential trips, including camping in Wales and ski trips to the Alps. In December this year we are taking a group of 40 students to The Gambia for a trip of a lifetime. We also run Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and annual curriculum days, which include trips to Shrewsbury Prison, The Think Tank or numerous University visits, as an example.
  • We offer a broad range of enrichment opportunities and a subsidised school bus to transport pupils home. Last term, pupils had the chance to take part in 28 different house competitions and 25 different clubs. There is also a thriving house system operating at the academy giving pupils a real feeling of belonging and community.
  • Relationships really matter at our academy; pupil and parent surveys are extremely positive. Our pupils are safe, happy and enjoy learning at our academy. They thrive in a small environment where we really take the time to get to know the child and foster a personalised approach to care and inclusion.
  • With the recent opening of our new state-of-the-art Music and Performing Arts Building, we have a learning environment made for the future. Visitors are always impressed by the size of the school grounds, the modern sports hall with an international standard basketball court.
  • As a part of Ormiston Academies Trust, Tenbury High benefits from first class school improvement support. The Ormiston ethos focuses on the very highest standards for all pupils combined with a strong first-class extra-curriculum programme, in line with our own caring, inclusive and highly achieving academy.
  • We are delighted that parents have asked us to provide extra bus routes; we are now running six bus routes for those who do not qualify for free school transport to satisfy the increasing demand to join our fantastic academy.

We would love to hear from you if you have any questions about Tenbury High, or if you wish to arrange a personal tour of our fantastic academy, please contact Mrs C Sheppard on [email protected] or 01584 810304.

Yours sincerely
