Tenbury High Ormiston Academy Curriculum Statement
Our school curriculum aims to engage and challenge our pupils in order to achieve highly and to contribute positively and responsibly to the world around them.
The curriculum is designed to develop our pupils as empathetic, respectful, tolerant learnersunderstanding of and curious about different cultures and diversity. We inspire an interest in the world around us, whilst remaining proud of our rural identity. The curriculum will prepare our pupils for the next stage of their life through high achievement and a culture of challenge. The curriculum is accessible to all, facilitating knowledge and skills that will build on previous learning and provide a strong foundation for life-long learning and an understanding of the value of education. The curriculum will develop pupils’ character and integrity. The vital skills of independence, resilience and curiosity are developed through a learning culture that encourages risk taking, enrichment and collaboration.
As pupils enter year 7, they will experience a continuous learning journey from 11-16. Key stage three (years 7, 8 and 9) provides a broad and balanced curriculum through study of the National Curriculum. The curriculum is regularly reviewed and developed to not only meet the needs and strengths of our pupils, but to provide opportunities for them to build and develop their resilience, cultural tolerance and understanding. Each unit, term and year is planned to revisit and embed prior learning as well as introducing new skills and knowledge appropriately.
At Key Stage three pupils will study: English Language and Literature, Maths, Science, Geography, History, Art, Drama, Music, Resistant Materials, Food and Catering, Computer Science, French, Physical Education and Personal Development.
All pupils take their options in the latter part of year 9. Our pupils are supported in the options and decision making process by an excellent IAG and careers offer. In key stage 4, they are required to maintain a broad and balanced curriculum and can expect to be exposed to a wealth of opportunities for enrichment and experience both inside and outside the classroom.
At Key Stage 4 all pupils are required to study English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, either Combined or Triple Science, Core PE and Religious Education. Pupils are then guided and supported to make four further choices from the following GCSEs or BTEC subjects: Geography, History, French, Computer Science, Design and Technology Resistant Materials, Health and Social Care, Catering, Art, GCSE PE, BTEC Performing Arts, Business Studies, Enterprise.

Please click on the subject below to find out more about our curriculum. Each subject has an overview document on the curriculum page of our website. Here, you will find details for each subject which focusses on the substantive knowledge (facts etc) and disciplinary knowledge (how the subject gains knowledge. For example, in Science, disciplinary knowledge would focus on practical investigations, enquiry and data analysis etc).
This knowledge has been carefully sequenced to build in complexity and focuses on securing core knowledge, before moving on to more complex knowledge.
