Music

Music is an essential part of the curriculum at Tenbury High Ormiston Academy and has an invaluable role within the life of the school.

Music has a unique contribution to make to the education and wellbeing of children. The music department should be an active place which aims to involve as many who want to in the enrichment it offers. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to perform, compose, and to listen with discrimination. Music as a subject, offers a tremendous amount to any pupil, both in terms of learning music and developing lifelong skills regardless of how ‘musical’ each pupil is. It is important to give the pupils an opportunity to experience music at their own level as well as beyond their own perceived abilities through a curriculum which is accessible to all, whilst still fostering a culture of challenge. Finally, the curriculum endeavours to immerse pupils in a wide variety of music from different times and cultures creating pupils who are knowledgeable about world history, and tolerant and respectful of its diverse nature.
